The Rage3 S300 multipurpose sliding mitre saw is now an older model and usually out of stock. We recommend looking at the R210SMS instead, or there are our recommended mitre saws here.
The Evolution Rage3 S300 Review
This mid range mitre saw from Evolution is a brilliant sliding saw at a fantastic price. This is a common theme amongst Evolution power tools. The Evolution Rage3-S300 does not offer as big a cut as the top of the range model but it is certainly big enough for many users.

Overview
One issue with many mitre saws aimed at the DIY market is that they do not have the capacity to cut large enough pieces of material. We read so many customer comments where they have bought a saw based on price alone only to find out it won’t do many of the jobs. The Evolution Rage3 S300 covers this issue. A great price for a sliding mitre saw with a big enough cut to deal with most jobs.
We talk about this model as a DIY mitre saw but actually Evolution have built this to deal with trade use as well. The 110V rather than 240V motor is perfect for use on site and build quality of this model is robust enough to work on a site with no issues. This makes it a very attractive option for those tradesmen that are looking for a great mitre saw for many uses but don’t want to spend the money on a very expensive brand.
Evolution back up all of these features with a three year warranty for all UK purchases. This is such good value, it ensures that you are going to have a quality power mitre saw that will last for many years at an excellent price. This is a match for many of the saws that cost a lot more.
Pros
Below are a few of the big benefits to having this mitre saw ready to go for many jobs.
- Excellent value.
- Offers wide cutting capacity.
- 3 year warranty.
- Cuts steel and aluminium.
- Ideal for trade and DIY use.
Cons
There really are not that many downsides to this model but below we have listed some things you may want to consider.
- Dust bag not the best.
- Not the most compact saw.
- Model up offers a bigger cut.
The Evolution Rage3-S300 Features
Lets have closer look at some of the great features on offer with the Rage3 S300. This is a saw that has enough features for most DIY and trade users.
Cut Multiple Materials
Out of the box the Rage3 S300 is supplied with a multi purpose blade. Once you have got the saw running you can start cut steel, aluminium, plastics and wood all with the same blade. This is a great feature that you don’t find on many other models at any price level. The finish is also very good, the metals are cut without leaving burrs or producing too much heat and wood is cut to a nice finish.
Large Cutting Capacity
The sliding mechanism and large blade allow this saw to chop up some pretty chunky materials with ease. For a saw in this price bracket you will be able to cut a lot of big timbers. Standard fence posts and stud walling timbers are going to be no issue at all. Maximum cut size is 60mm by 300mm which reduces to 35 by 210mm at the tightest angles. More than enough for most users. This will cut 2 by 4 inch timbers with no problem and deal with wider flooring planks easily.
Laser Cutting Guide
The laser cutting guide is excellent for viewing your potential cut and making sure you are perfectly lined up. The laser creates a line that sits on top of the material showing you exactly where the saw will cut. Very useful and will help to get that professional cut every time.
Dust Management
A lot of the saw dust that is created by the saw when cutting is pushed down a tube to manage the dust in the working environment. You can either connect the dust bag to this which is supplied to the Evolution Rage3-S300 or attach a hoover or other device to clear the dust while you are working. If you are cutting a lot of wood connecting a hoover is a great option. When you are cutting metal this tube can be plugged so that no shards of metal are pushed out.
Variable Depth Cutting
The depth of the cut can be easily set for cutting grooves into wood and other materials. Another nice feature at this price level.
Single Bevel And Mitre Angles
This Evolution mitre saw offers a lot of flexibility in the angles you can cut. The single-bevel action allows you to tilt the Rage3-S300 to the left to get great bevel cuts. This combined with the sliding action means you will be able to cut deep skirting boards and large cornices nice and easily.
What The Customers Say
As with most of the Evolution models there are plenty of customer reviews to read through. The products are stocked by many large online retailers. We have combined our review with the customer comments section below to try and give you a balanced view of Rage3 S300. Below we have picked out some of the common themes we found when reading through the customer comments.
Leaves A Nice Finish
When cutting wood it has been mentioned that the finish left by the multi purpose blade is great. As the blade is an all in one version for many materials many expect it to be good for cutting but not great for wood finishes. This is a great bonus as the blade really is good for a lot of jobs.
Laser Often Needs Re Aligning
Out of the box a number of people have commented that they have had to realign the laser guide. This is not a problem but something that will need doing to get accurate angles. Making a few test cuts and measuring the angles should sort this out. This is not really a problem but more of a set up issue.
Plenty Of Online Tutorials
One user was pleased to see plenty of tutorials on YouTube showing you how to use this model. This is a really important point that is not often picked up for the DIY users and beginners. The Rage3 S300 is capable of taking on a lot of jobs but only if you know how. Once you have spent some time really understanding and learning hoe to use it the results will be fantastic.
Great Upgrade To Cheaper Models
One user noted how this was a great buy after firstly, buying a cheaper model. The original model they bought did not have all of the features and cutting capabilities that the Rage3 S300 has. Now they are happy in the knowledge that they have a mitre saw that can really take on some of the large jobs, especially wider planks with the sliding function.
Hopefully this gives you an idea of what people are saying about the Rage3 S300. There are actually quite a few reviews that say “Excellent” or “Great bit of kit”, which is very reassuring.
Conclusion
The Rage3 S300 is another great mitre saw in that range from Evolution. All of the mitre saws in this range get great reviews and are fit for many jobs. The Rage3 S300 sits in the middle between the lower end of the range with limited capacity and the higher range models like the Rage 3+ Sliding mitre saw.
This is a great model that will do most of the jobs any us need, but to be honest we think you are better off spending that little bit extra and going up a level to the Evolution Rage3+ as it will offer larger capacity and more power.
This model allows you to have a mitre saw set up on site or at home that will take on most jobs in materials in seconds. The multi purpose blade solves problems in that it means you don’t have to keep changing it for metal and wood. A very versatile saw.
This model gets a lot of great reviews and is backed by a three year warranty which gives you piece of mind when making your investment. We think it is a good model but really we would recommend the Rage3+ for as it is better value.
