Now that you have chosen the mitre saw you are going to buy or already have it set up it may be worth considering some new projects that to take on. Most of us buy a mitre saw with a certain job in mind, once that job is done you will probably realise just how useful and easy to use these power saws can be.
The projects that you can take on are endless. Here we are going to go through a few garden ideas that you might like to have a go at or even start you thinking about other things you could build.
The garden is often an area of the home that gets easily over looked and tatty. In actual fact it can add so much to your home with a bit of thought and imagination. There is nothing better than a nice tidy garden with some solidly built natural wood items. Not only does a nice garden add a lot to your quality of life but it can add value to your home. If your garden is a bit of a mess and is actually hard to handle then some of the ideas below may actually make it easier to manage as well.
Sheds
So many sheds that you buy are terrible quality. The wood that they use is bad and thin and the build quality is not great. Many have thin timbers that are stapled together. Every garden could do with a purpose built shed that is built to the size and specification that is required for the family. Organised storage that doesn’t burst out of the door when it opens would be great.
Well you will be glad to hear that more sturdy timber to build a solid shed does not need to cost the earth. With the help of a mitre saw and some good plans you could build a high quality shed to the exact size that you need that will last you many years. You will be surprised just how much money you can save by building your own rather then buying one from a garden centre.
Benches And Seats
There is nothing better than sitting on a solid well built garden seat on a summers evening. Often the sturdy pieces of furniture are very expensive and seen as a luxury. To get a really nice seat you need to cut some accurate angles and get the joins perfectly aligned and in no time you will have a lovely piece of garden furniture. There are many plans online for simple seats or benches and some pretty complicated ones. The mitre saw will have no problems getting all of your angles right.
Fencing
A mitre saw is the perfect tool to build your own sturdy bespoke fencing. Cutting the posts to length and the boards to fit should be a very quick job. Once the angles are set and the wood is marked up you can slice through metres of fencing wood in no time at all. Once it is cut it can be assembled for a really nice fence. Bespoke fencing can be a lot sturdier and look great but can be very expensive to buy, so why not build your own.
One thing to be careful of if you are buying a mitre saw with fencing in mind, is that you make sure it has the capacity to cut the fence posts. A lot of standard fence posts are 75mm x 75mm (3 inches) which many of the saws like the Evolution Rage3+ can cope with but larger 100mm x 100mm (4 inch) posts will require a saw with a bigger cut like the Dewalt DWS780.
Decking
Decking can be made easy with a power mitre saw and also look great. Most decking will have a few awkward corners to be squeezed into. Once you have measured these tight angles the blade will easily cut through the decking plank, leaving you with a clean cut and a very nice finish. You can also add some nice finishing pieces of wood around the deck to give it a very professional feel, adding a lot of style to your home.
The same applies to the decking timbers as with fencing, make sure you have a saw that can cope with the correct timbers. If you are going to span a wide gap then it is wise to find out what size the timbers need to be before you buy your saw.
Log Store
If you are lucky enough to have a log burner in your house why not build a nice log store to season those logs for the winter months. It can be difficult to keep the rain off the log pile and they can often grow to large piles all over the place. If you have a good log store it will stop the logs spreading all over your garden and dry them out nicely. They can also look great in the garden adding a nice homely feel.
Planters
This is something that not many people think of doing. If you have taken on a few mitre saw projects you will probably have a number of off cuts of wood lying around. These can easily be cut into some nice looking planters to grow your flowers or fruit and veg in. Have a look around on the internet for nice designs and interesting ideas.
Tree House
This is a project that the kids will love. Not many people children are lucky enough to have their own tree house in the garden. Over time you could cut the wood to build a really play space for the children to enjoy. As time goes on you can add to it making it a real sceptical in your garden. Projects like this can often be made from off cuts that have built up over the years and put to great use.
As you can see there are so many things that a mitre saw can help with in your garden. The list above is just a few but hopefully it will get you thinking about future projects that you can be proud of. Online you will find plenty of free wood working plans to get you started. Some are very basic and great places to start.
